Efinger Sporting Goods


Efinger Sporting Goods, currently located in Bound Brook on Route 28, has been customers’ one stop shop for all sporting good and athletic needs for over 100 years. This family owned business has been able to grow and grow their product supply as well as their square footage space for all of it to fit! Their current location is a 50,000 sq. ft. state-of-the art shopping experience which includes a 1000 gallon shark tank.

Corporate Manager Patrick Hoey, great grandson of the store’s founder, began working at Efinger in the fishing department. Soon after, he became the store manager for retail. He has been in his current position since 2005. Hoey explains that their services and family friendly atmosphere are what sets them apart of other chain sporting goods stores. “We have people who have worked here and then their children work here years later.”

It is not just family that they hire, but also experts or “sport enthusiasts” that have actual experience with the equipment they are selling. For example, in each department, every sales person tending to customers know which product best fits their needs.

Hoey says athletics is what brings in many of their customers. “Baseball; that’s one of our big sports, as well as lacrosse, field hockey and ice hockey.” Their outdoor department, which includes hunting, fishing, and camping, also gets a lot of customer attention. Efinger also added a new bike department after opening their new store in 2005.

“We have a wide range of demographics that visit our store,” says Hoey. “From young families with children, to retirees who come in and enjoy fishing, or still like hunting, hiking and back packing!”

People may think that a sporting goods store is mainly targeted to men, but Efinger sees a 50/50 ratio of men and women walk through their doors. “We also carry women’s apparel to accommodate the women that come in,” says Hoey. There’s definitely something for everyone!

Efinger Sporting Goods recently launched their new website where customers can now shop online and place orders there. The website, www.efingersports.com, has new items being added for purchase all the time. In looking ahead, Hoey hopes that in addition to the success of the online store, they expect to expand to other locations. Efinger Sporting Goods is open Monday– Friday: 9:30 AM – 9:00 PM, Saturday: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM and Sunday 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
