Chris Daunno has been involved in many aspects of the construction business over the years, but he found that residential building and renovation was his preferred niche. Fifteen years ago, after working with his brothers, he started his own business, CAD Construction LLC, in Warren.

“My career’s changed over time,” he says. “I went to school for civil engineering and have a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology. I'm also an entrepreneur. I like to have a goal and just run with it.”

While most people think the CAD in the company name stands for Computer-Aided Drafting, which Chris does do, it’s really for his initials, Christopher Alan Daunno. So, he knows that every job he undertakes has his name and reputation linked to it.

“To me, there's a stereotype with the words ‘contracting business’ and I didn't want it to be like that. I wanted it to be a different experience for the customer, and for me. I wanted it to be organized and come out my way. And it has - we have a proven track record.”

Adds Chris, “It’s run like a proper professional company. We call you back, maintain schedules, and stay organized. All of our guys are reputable and fully insured; I'm not bringing strangers into your home.”

Although CAD Construction focus mainly on residential jobs, there are times when Chris will accept special projects. “I was lucky enough to be involved in the construction of the Mount Bethel Fire Department and build a home for their new fire truck,” he says. “I have always respected the volunteer fire departments and appreciate the service they provide to our town.”

While CAD Construction will do some smaller jobs here and there, he and his head of field supervision, Frank Rubino, see themselves as Home Transformation Specialists. “We do major renovations and design-build services,” says Chris. “Design-build is a turn-key service including budgets, layouts, scope of works and, of course, the construction itself.”

Another benefit offered to customers is the CAD Construction Preferred Vendor Program, which gives them discounts if they select products, such as tile and plumbing fixtures, through approved local vendors. “I've been in their showrooms. I know the owners of those companies - there's a relationship.”

Another reason Chris wanted to own his own company was, while he places a lot of importance on his career, he also makes family and community a priority. “When I was growing up, we had dinner with my mom and dad every night,” he says. “I created CAD Construction as a way to avoid commuting and allowing me to stay close to home and be involved.”

He's also heavily invested in the Warren community, where he and his family live. “I do a lot of volunteering with the Warren Lions Club. We run the annual EXPO carnival. I’m also a member of the Sons of the American Legion and the Elks. I find my involvement in these organizations to be extremely rewarding. Giving back makes the world a better place.”
